The Makaaram process is a careful sequence of deliberate steps, where expertise and passion converge. We prioritize techniques that guarantee stability and longevity—ensuring our furniture becomes part of your family's story for generations.
1
We are uncompromising in our material choice. We specifically select and procure hardwoods that are either locally available or perfectly suited to the climatic conditions of the region. This is a critical step: working with the correct, proven hardwood ensures superior dimensional stability and natural resistance to the elements. Once sourced, the wood undergoes patient, careful seasoning—a necessary period of rest that prepares the timber to age beautifully and guarantees minimal movement over decades.
2
Before any tool touches the timber, the design is translated directly onto the raw material. Our master craftsmen meticulously measure and mark the wood, using traditional techniques to map out every joint, curve, and cut. This hand-marking ritual ensures the design accounts for the natural characteristics of that specific piece of wood—its grain, its flaws, its unique strength—making every cut deliberate and authentic.
3
The true signature of a Makaaram piece lies in its joinery. We reject shortcuts, favoring time-honored methods—the mortise and tenon, the dovetail, the wedged through-tenon—over quick mechanical fixes. These are complex, time-intensive connections that rely purely on the precision of wood meeting wood. This dedication to structural integrity results in superior strength and a clean, uninterrupted aesthetic that defines our quality.
4
This is where the structure becomes sculpture. After assembly, the surface undergoes a multi-stage sanding process. Beginning with rougher grits and graduating to ultrafine, this ritual is performed by hand and eye, ensuring the wood’s natural texture is maintained while achieving a velvety, flawless finish. We pay special attention to edges and curves, gently sculpting the piece until it is responsive and warm to the touch.
5
The final step is the finish, where we seal the promise of endurance. We use natural oils and low-VOC treatments that are carefully rubbed into the wood, nourishing the timber from within. Because we started with naturally suited hardwoods, the finish achieves a deep, lasting patina. A final inspection ensures the piece meets the Makaaram standard: built to endure and finished flawlessly.
